OUR GERMAN TOGO LEATHER
Founded in Bavaria in 1864, Perlinger has carried its tanning tradition through five generations. Its Alpin Calf—known across our collection as German Togo—combines a deep pebbled grain with a dense yet supple hand. It flexes comfortably while retaining a composed silhouette, making it especially suited to journals, bags, and pieces handled every day.

FINE CROSS-GRAIN CALFSKIN
Perlinger Noblessa is a finely embossed cross-grain calfskin distinguished by its dense body, crisp definition, and remarkably consistent surface. Its firm temper allows edges, folds, and panels to retain a precise architectural line, while the refined grain provides practical resilience for objects used throughout the day.

Noblessa gives our binders, notebook covers, and desk pieces the sense of precision we want them to carry. It is structured without feeling industrial and refined without appearing delicate.

03 / Shinki-Hikaku Shell Cordovan
APPROXIMATELY TEN MONTHS IN THE MAKING
In Himeji, Japan, Shinki-Hikaku produces cordovan through a process that takes approximately ten months from tanning and ageing to drying and finishing. The result comes from a uniquely dense fibre layer, giving the leather its smooth surface, natural spring, and unmistakable depth of lustre.
WHY WE CHOOSE IT
We select Shinki-Hikaku Cordovan for pieces where the material itself should remain the central expression—particularly wallets and limited, hand-stitched editions. With handling, its surface becomes increasingly personal, recording light, movement, and time.

04 / Conceria Walpier Vegetable-Tanned Leather
THE STRUCTURE BENEATH THE SURFACE
Produced in Tuscany by Conceria Walpier, this vegetable-tanned leather brings firmness, clarity, and natural warmth to the interior architecture of many Layers of LeRoi pieces. Its smooth surface and dense body provide support beneath softer exterior leathers, while its colour and lustre become richer through handling.

How does Shinki-Hikaku Cordovan change over time?
Shell Cordovan develops greater depth and a more personal lustre through handling. Its dense fibre structure allows it to mature gradually while retaining its distinctive smoothness and natural spring.
Why is Walpier leather often used inside the piece?
Walpier vegetable-tanned leather provides firmness and structural support beneath softer exterior leathers. It allows pockets and panels to hold their intended shape while developing warmth and a subtle patina of its own.
Are variations in grain and colour considered defects?
No. Subtle variations in grain, tone, and surface character are natural qualities of genuine leather. They reflect the individuality of each hide and make every finished piece slightly different.
How should I care for my leather piece?
Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid prolonged exposure to moisture, direct heat, and strong sunlight. Because each leather has different finishing characteristics, please contact us before applying any conditioner or treatment.
