Perlinger Alpin Calf—known throughout our collection as German Togo—combines a deep pebbled grain with a dense yet supple hand. It flexes comfortably through daily use while retaining the composed character intended by the design.
A BAVARIAN TANNING TRADITION
Founded in Bavaria in 1864, Perlinger has carried its tanning knowledge through five generations. That continuity matters to us not simply as a mark of heritage, but as evidence of specialist knowledge refined over time.
Each hide reflects a balance that is difficult to achieve: tactile without feeling loose, structured without becoming rigid, and expressive without demanding attention.
THE CHARACTER OF ALPIN CALF
The pronounced pebbled grain gives Alpin Calf a tactile, quietly expressive surface. Beneath that grain is a dense yet supple body that allows the leather to bend and move without feeling loose or unstructured.
With regular handling, the leather gradually softens and gains depth while preserving the character of its distinctive grain.
CHOSEN FOR MOVEMENT AND STRUCTURE
Some leathers are selected to hold a precise architectural line. Alpin Calf is chosen when a piece must feel inviting and flexible while remaining composed.
This balance makes it especially well suited to journals, bags, and everyday pieces—objects that are opened, carried, and handled repeatedly.
IN A LAYERS OF LEROI PIECE
We often use Alpin Calf for the exterior, where touch, movement, and visual character matter most. It may then be paired with a firmer vegetable-tanned leather inside, selected to provide structure, reinforcement, and support.
Each leather performs a different responsibility, creating a finished piece that feels balanced from its outermost grain to its internal layers.
